The Commission of Historical Studies and Cultural Heritage of the Discalced Carmelite Order (CEHPC-OCD) is honored to announce the II International Congress «The Teresian Reform in Portugal – new research approaches» which will take place in Fatima’s Domus Carmeli, Portugal, from 24-26 November 2022.

After the success of the I International Congress in 2015, during the celebrations of the 5th Centenary of the Birth of Saint Teresa a movement was created, that bring together several experts from different areas of knowledge with works on themes related to the Discalced Carmelite Order in Portugal, leading to the creation of CEHPC. This spirit of mutual collaboration and share knowledge have been generating the confidence and maturity that led us to consider to organize this new Congress, five years from the first one, with the purpose to deepen the themes already discussed and broaden the range of new lines of investigation. As well as the first one, this Congress will address the major themes of the Teresian Charism: Institutional History, Art and Heritage, Mission, Science and Culture.

This II International Congress will also have the co-organization of the National Museum Machado de Castro which will prepare a cultural initiative, due to the importance and presence of the Discalced Carmelite Order in Coimbra. With this Congress, we hope not only bring together new researchers and share new works that highlight the historical legacy that this Religious Order has left in our country, but recognize the living history that continues to be written in the present and to shed new perspectives on the future.
